In France, the pharmaceutical company Servier is facing investigations on allegations of fraud and negligence in the case of hundreds of deaths due to weight loss medicines. The French Drug Monitoring Group was also under investigation. More than 500 people died in France due to heart valve problems after eating the drug company Servier’s Mediator. Criminal lawsuits against Servier, his nine subsidiaries and the ANSM drug watchdog are likely to last six months. Among the 12 people against whom the case is going on, former number two officer of Servier, Philippe Seta, physician member of the Afsas Commission and former Senator M. Theresge Harmange. Harmange is accused of producing a report that was in favor of Servier. Experts estimate that there could be around 2100 deaths due to this in such a long time.

The film is based on the life of real-life respiratory pathologist Irene Françon, who was instrumental in bringing the alleged scandal to light through its publicity and investigation.
